Players: 2Time: 5 minPhase: Finishing
Setup & rules
- A shot after a post-up (lay-off) play
- Shoot to the same side as the marker the coach is holding up
- Depending on the players' level, the coach raises a marker just before the shot
Key factors
- Don't look only at the ball — check the goal before you shoot
- Focus on aiming your shot placement, and don't over-swing your leg
Progressions
- Change the timing of raising the marker to just before the shot
Kazu's notes FROM THE COACH
To avoid long waiting times, use two lines. When players come back, add a dribbling drill, for example.

One idea a week from Japanese youth football
A free weekly essay on how kids actually learn the game — complexity, the ecological approach, and what 30 years on Japanese grassroots pitches taught me.
I'm Kazu — a youth football coach in Japan since 1995. These are sessions I actually use, shared from the Japanese coaching site I have run for years (Junior Soccer College). I also write a free weekly
newsletter on how children learn the game.
